Etched Steel Column Wrap Plate. Forged Texture with a decorative paint finish to protect the steel from moisture. The paint finish involves a black lacquer which is rubbed back and top coated with a clear lacquer. Patina could also be used.
Cold Rolled Steel, Free Of Mill Scale, on the left and Hot Rolled Steel with Mill Scale on the Right. Neither has a coating or patina. This shows the variation that occurs within the color of the mills scale, next to the mill scale free cold rolled steel.
Faux Patina Blackened Steel Balusters. Utilizing a tumbler or sandblaster, the texture is applied evenly to the balusters which are then coated with a black lacquer finish and then a clear lacquer finish.
Etched Blackened Steel Panel on 1/8th inch thick hot rolled, pickeled and oiled steel sheet. The sheet was first etched in a CNC mechanical process which was followed by a room temperature patina and wax coating. Note the imperfections in the surface which are inherent in hot rolled materials.
Patinated Steel, Dalmation Patina Effect applied on cold rolled steel and clear coated with wax or lacquer. This is a tricky hand applied finish which is labor intensive and skill intensive.
Patinated Bronze Door Hardware. The patina is highlighted on the decorative elements and edges to give the fabrication more depth. A clear wax or lacquer is applied to protect the finish.
Forged Iron Handrail and Balustrade Detail. Room Temperature Patina on Hot Forged Steel, with some mills scale remaining. The patina helps to blend areas where some welding has occured to give it a more seamless appearance. Wax is the top coat.
